Home affairs amends directions to combat COVID-19

The home affairs department has amended Directions on measures to combat Covid-19.
The amended Directions were published in Government Gazette 44072 in terms of Disaster Management Act Regulations.
Paragraphs 12.3, 19, 20 and 21.1 of the Directions are amended by the extension of the validity period of visas and permits until 31 March 2021.
Holders of such visas and permits can leave South Africa up to the end of March without being declared as undesirable.
A new paragraph 16 on closure of borders is inserted setting out the list of closed ports of entry, requirements for application for emergency travel and prescribed screening procedures and isolation or quarantine rules.
Paragraph 17G on services to be rendered by the home affairs department under alert level 1 is repealed.
A new paragraph 17H on services to be rendered by the department under adjusted alert level 3 is inserted.
Services include births registration; re-issuance of births certificates; death registration; collection of identity cards or documents; applications and collection of passports for those who are exempted to travel and visa services in terms of the Immigration Act for those persons exempted to enter South Africa.
