70+ strong legal practice joins Eversheds Sutherland’s Europe team

Eversheds Sutherland announced today that it has strengthened its position in Europe and Africa by combining with leading full-service law firm FCB in Portugal, and its associated firms in Angola and Mozambique.

FCB has a long-standing relationship with the firm and this combination will enable Eversheds Sutherland to expand its offering to its global client base across three new markets.

As a highly rated full-service company commercial law firm, FCB advises international clients on all aspects of their legal requirements from three offices in Portugal, Lisbon, Porto and Faro, and offices in Mozambique and Angola through associated local firms.

Working closely with the firm’s Spanish office, its Portuguese practice will provide clients with a wide breadth of experience across Iberia, an important region for the global firm which will also deepen its connections and coverage for clients in Africa and Latin America.

FCB’s strong international client base is predominately located in the US, UK, Germany and France.

Lee Ranson, CEO, Eversheds Sutherland (International) commented:

“The addition of FCB to our growing European and African locations supports our strategy and will greatly benefit our combined client rosters. We are delighted to welcome FCB’s highly respected team to Eversheds Sutherland and look forward to working closely with our new colleagues in the months ahead.”

Ian Gray, Chair, Europe, Eversheds Sutherland commented:

“FCB has been a valuable partner of Eversheds Sutherland’s wider service in Europe for over 10 years, with long-standing relationships between our legal teams. This combination is a natural evolution for our teams to come together and work more closely. Our firms are culturally aligned, share many clients in common and have a substantial history of referrals to each other. We are thrilled that such a talented legal team has joined us.”

Gonçalo da Cunha, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland FCB (Portugal) commented:

“I am delighted that FCB is combining with Eversheds Sutherland to create greater reach for both our firms across Europe, and in Angola and Mozambique. By joining forces, we will deepen our ongoing relationship to the benefit of our international clients. We look forward to building and strengthening relationships with colleagues across the firm’s global office network and supporting clients on their activity across Europe, Africa and Latin America.”

The addition of Eversheds Sutherland’s new team in Portugal builds on the firm’s client offering in Europe, a core part of the firm’s global strategy, and takes the firm’s geographic reach to 74 offices across 35 jurisdictions.
