Senior Associate

The Client:

One of the world’s leading law firms has an opening for a senior associate to join their corporate commercial division in either their Cape Town of Johannesburg office. The role will form part of the firm’s existing team and will have the opportunity to work with both local and international clients. As well as have the opportunity to work with the firm’s global offices.

The Role:

The primary role for the senior associate will include, but not limited to:

  • Take a lead role on a variety of matters (or aspects of matters) across a range of sectors and take responsibility for matters and ensuring that they are completed within deadline and the applicable quality requirements
  • Build and maintain client relationships
  • Gain knowledge of our clients’ business and economic drivers as well as an understanding of the markets and sectors where our clients operate in order to deliver commercially astute advice
  • Contribute to business development
  • Work as part of a team, including supervising, coaching and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Contribute to thought leadership and raise the profile of the firm externally

The Candidate:

  • Strong academic record
  • Broad and extensive knowledge of corporate commercial and litigation matters
  • Exposure to a wide range of sectors with the ability to work competently with the regulatory and contractual frameworks applicable to matters
  • Experience of working with international clients in the corporate and sector (beneficial)
  • Experience of preparing and participating in pitches to clients
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence and accuracy
  • Exceptional drafting skills and legal research ability
  • Dedicated to exceptional client service
  • Excellent business development ability and demonstrates market focus
  • Strong financial and business awareness with a demonstration of good market focus
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment and resilience skills
  • Strong initiative and drive and takes control of own career development
